AFS overview
In order to prevent marine growth from adhering to ships, methods such as injecting chemicals into the seawater line and sterilizing seawater with chlorides generated by electrolyzing seawater have been used. On the other hand, CATHELCO System's AFS utilizes the conductivity of seawater to prevent the reproduction of marine life by copper ions. Copper ion generated by passing a direct current to the anode (copper electrode/aluminum electrode) is adsorbed by utilizing the adhesiveness of the aluminum hydroxide/iron hydroxide colloidal particles that are generated at the same time, and comes into contact with seawater. It adheres to the wall surface to increase the copper ion concentration and create an environment where marine life is unlikely to occur.
